Inception of Tribhuvandas Foundation (TF) happened during the white revolution era. After the grand success of Anand Milk Union Cooperative Ltd (AMUL) in Erstwhile Kheda district of central Gujarat, there was a felt need of health care of rural community especially of mother & children at that time. Shri Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, who was the pioneer of cooperative movement of Milk Revolution sensed that. He donated money which was given to him at the time of retirement from Chairmanship of AMUL and also donated the money he received through Ramon Magsaysay award, to establish a cooperative linked model for health care of the Rural community. With this background Tribhuvandas Foundation (TF) got registered in year (1975) and started its activities later in 1980. Tribhuvandas Foundation was started with the core objective to provide health care to the Rural community at their doorstep.
The Tribhuvandas Foundation works on Cooperative based model where Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS) members and their units contribute to TF to serve through a community-based approach. The role of TF is to provide technical support in the area of health and allied aspects that can be helpful for integrated development of villages. TF identifies local volunteer woman known as Village Health Volunteers (VHVs), who is selected from the same village. She is trained and supported by TF to provide health and allied services of TF in respective villages. They receive honorarium by local DCS. Considering the importance of mother & child health, priority has remained mother & child health care till date. TF’s Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) take care of pregnant and lactating mothers as well as young children.
Erstwhile Kheda district is divided now into Anand, Kheda and Mahisagar districts. With time, there was a huge transformation in the reach of services of Tribhuvandas Foundation to 1070 villages of these three districts, from around 400 villages in the beginning. For Project based activities, reach is there in other districts of Gujarat also.
TF is also running clinical services provided by doctors, at five centres namely Anand, Kapadwanj, Kheda, Tarapur and Balasinor. While earlier core focus of clinical service was primary health care, over the period of time there is addition of secondary care services at Kapadwanj, Anand centre. TF is also having once a week field OPDs at six places.
TF is also known for its Handicraft activity. It is popular especially because of its unique patchwork. This also has economically supported many rural women. In the past, TF has supported various activities for Government e.g. production and supply of thousands of Disposable delivery kits to many districts of Gujarat, Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre, Family planning camps etc.
The expansion in terms of geographical area and type of services has made Tribhuvandas Foundation one of the largest health care service providers in central Gujarat. Its cooperative linked health care delivery model which is unique probably in the entire Country.
